Chinese Logo

Dr. Chen Lifu(1899-2002) honored the first anniversary in 1994 by presenting a work of calligraphy representing the center’s name.

In 1929, Dr. Chen, a prominent politician, convinced the government to withdraw the abolishment of Chinese medicine. Subsequently, the government founded the Institute of Chinese medicine in the capital, which was a crucial step for the continual presence of Chinese medicine in China.

Acupuncturists

Irene Kim, LAc

S. Irene Kim, LAc., OMD, Dipl. Ac.,DNBAO, received her Doctor's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from South Baylo University, is a Diplomate in Acupuncture, NCCAOM. She also has postgraduate training in Nutrition and diplomate national board of Acupuncture Orthopedics. Dr. Kim is a part time Clinical Specialist at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, is actively involved in patient education and Breast Cancer Survior Research Project.

Je-Jia Li, LAc

Jie-Jia Li, LAc, PhD, MD (China), received his medical degree from the First Military Medical University in Guangzhou, China and a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, followed by a Ph.D. degree in American Liberty University, USA. Currently, he is a Clinical Specialist at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine. In addition to his work in the clinical program, Dr. Li is engaged in integrated medicine research. His areas of expertise are in pain management, cardiology, cancer, fingernail image diagnosis, and the study of herbal medicine for various syndromes including those associated with menopause and hypertension, etc.

Ming-Dong Li, LAc

Ming-Dong Li, B. Med. (China), MS, PhD, L. Ac., began his study of Tai Chi and Qi-Gong as a teenager and received his B. Med., and PhD at Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China. He completed his residency in Chinese Internal Medicine at Shanghai Yu Dian Hospital and also spent two years studying Tuina from Dr. Da-Fang Yu, a renowned Professor at Shanghai University of TCM. Dr. Li teaches Chinese Internal Medicine, Diagnosis, Tuina and Tai-Chi courses at several local universities in Los Angeles. Currently, he is conducting a clinical research study of Tai Chi and Qi-Gong on tension headache as a Chinese medical doctor at the Center.

Xiuling Ma, LAc

Xiuling Ma, OMD (China), PhD, MS, LAc, spent 12 years training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There she studied directly under Professor Jia-San Yang. Dr. Ma has taught at several colleges and universities throughout Los Angeles and currently is a part-time Clinical Specialist at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine. She plays an important role in teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture at the Center.

Jun-Liang Yu, LAc, QME

Jun-Liang Yu, MD(China), LAc, QME, received his training in Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangzhou, China, and obtained his medical degree in 1977. He also had postgraduate training in neuropharmacology, clinical pharmacology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has been working with Dr. Ka-Kit Hui at the UCLA School of Medicine since 1985. As a licensed acupuncturist, he has taught acupuncture at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles (1991-1994). At the Center, Dr. Yu is responsible for the Traditional Chinese Medicine component of the clinical program. He also plays a major role in the Center educational programs in integrative East-West medicine.
