Education in Integrative Medicine

The Center is involved with the Education Working Group of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. The principal focus of the Education Working Group is to incorporate the field of integrative medicine into the curriculum of medical schools throughout the country. The Center’s 4th Year Course is included as an education model at UCLA.

Nurse Practitioner Fellowship

The goals and objectives of the Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program are to: Strengthen the field of integrative medicine by creating a cadre of academically-trained nurse practitioners in this area; produce superb nurse practitioner clinician-teachers in the field of integrative medicine; stimulate interest in integrative medicine in the nursing profession; and allow participants the unique opportunity for self-directed growth and exploration.

Over the two-year span of the fellowship, the Nurse Practitioner will be introduced to integrative East-West medicine, an innovative approach to healthcare developed at our Center, which comprises the judicious incorporation of the best of Traditional Chinese Medicine and conventional care, with an emphasis on a biopsychosocial approach to health and disease and a sharp focus on disease prevention and health promotion. Content will be delivered primarily via clinical training but didactic and self-study components will play important roles as well. Clinical training will occur in the CEWM clinic three days a week. One to two days each week will be devoted to related educational activities. Didactic and self-study components will be directed primarily by Center faculty. Other opportunities for fellows include participation in and presentation at relevant meetings and conferences as well as prominent roles in teaching medical students, residents, and nurses on rotation.
