The Science of CAIM: What’s Next for Complementary, Alternative and Integrative Medical Research?
While many CAIM investigators look into the alternative therapies used by millions of Americans with conventional research tools, critics continue to voice objections to such efforts arguing that, at bottom, CAIM is unscientific. At the same time, some CAIM researchers claim that the novel designs and methodologies they have introduced could revolutionize medical science. In an era of reduced funding, during which many urgent research questions remain unanswered, how should alternative therapies be studied?
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the UCLA Center for East West Medicine will present a colloquium on future directions for CAIM research. Divergent views will be presented by the following distinguished speakers:

From the 405 Freeway, take Sunset Boulevard eastbound to Westwood Plaza. Turn right to enter the campus and proceed to the parking kiosk directly ahead (see arrow at soccer field leading to P4 on map). Ask attendant for permit parking for Covel Commons at Sunset Village. (Note: If you do not have a UCLA parking permit, you must go first to the parking kiosk). Once in the garage, take the elevator or the stairs in the southwest corner of to the lobby (L) level. Once on the “L” level, the Covel Commons building will be directly in front of you. Turn RIGHT and walk along the outside of the building. Turn LEFT at the corner of the building and proceed to the entrance. Ask for directions to the South Bay Room at Covel Commons front desk.
If you have a blue UCLA parking permit, it should be displayed for free parking at Sunset Village (to access Sunset Village parking, take Sunset Blvd. to Bellagio Drive. Make a RIGHT turn onto Bellagio Drive and proceed to the stop sign at the top of the hill. Turn LEFT at the stop sign onto De Neve Drive. Proceed 3/10 of a mile down the hill to the PSV (Sunset Village) parking garage. (You will pass one stop sign just prior to reaching the PSV parking garage.)
Yellow permit holders must obtain a temporary permit prior to entering the Sunset Village parking lot. Temporary permits can be obtained from any parking kiosk on campus.
