- On October 29, 2006, the Center was a co-honoree of a vocal recital, “A Tapestry of Chinese Vocal Music,” featuring Shirley Ho, soprano. Mrs. Ho and her husband, Professor Chi-Ming Ho, holder of the Ben Rich-Lockheed Martin Chair in the UCLA Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the Director of the Institute for Cell Mimetic Space Exploration, and, formerly, the UCLA Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, graciously hosted this event. This year’s benefits the Center and the Asian-American Physicians Association of the South Bay. Professor and Mrs. Ho covered all expenses. The tickets are free, with guests encouraged to make gifts to the organization they support. The concert was hold on Saturday, October 29, 2006, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the James Anderson Theatre at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center in Torrance, California. Click HERE for concert flyer.
- The Annual Conference of the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine was hold on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Jules Stein Auditorium, UCLA, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The keynote speaker was Professor Keji Chen, Academician of the China Academy of Sciences, President of the China Association of Integrative Medicine, President of the China Association of Geriatrics, and the First Wallis Annenberg Visiting Professor in Integrative East-West Medicine. Professor Chen is one of the most distinguished pioneers of integrative East-West Medicine in China. His areas of expertise include integrative cardiology and geriatrics. His clinical and research work have received worldwide recognition. Dr. Chen was awarded the First Prize in National Scientific Achievement Award in China in 2003. His presentation is entitled “Advances in Integrative East-West Medicine: A Fifty-Year Perspective.” For more information, please click HERE .

- In June 2006 a delegation from the Center visited the province of Xinjiang, China. The visit included lectures by Dr. Hui, Dr. Taw, and Dr. Tu on various health related topics. Meetings were conducted with the Xinjiang Ministry of Health and the Xinjiang Medical University.

The presentation included the prevalence of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in the United States, the latest evidence on acupuncture for common rheumatologic conditions such as low back pain, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia, and a look at autoimmune disease with a focus on a case study of systemic lupus erythematosus illustrating the patient-centered approach utilized at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine. The presentation was well received and prompted an enthusiastic discussion among those in attendance. Those involved expressed interest in future collaboration for improving patient care and advancing the field through academic and clinical research.
